An Original Podcast About Unoriginality

Ever noticed how Hollywood is obsessed with remaking old movies, rebooting franchises, and reviving forgotten media properties? It makes one wonder if Hollywood has run out of ideas or are they just exploiting viewers’ nostalgia?

Remakes, Reboots & Revivals is a podcast that explores those questions, created by Rolando Nieves and Nicole Pometti, two queer, Latinx filmmakers. Each episode, they pick a movie or TV show and delve into the franchise’s history and production values. Then, Rolando and Nicole compare and contrast the old to the new, critiquing creative decisions made in the latest production; commonly (but not limited to) gender swapping, introducing people of color and cramming in LGBTQ characters. Sometimes they’re successful; often they are not.

And finally, together, Rolando and Nicole try to answer, “Was this really needed?”
