Home Alone & Home Sweet Home Alone - We just got Buzz. Cool.

Christmas-time is here. And that means it's time to see criminals get brutally assaulted by mischievous children. Isn't that what the holidays are all about?
This week, Nicole and Rolando discuss the 1990 classic, "Home Alone." What makes this movie so special to millennials? And should it be considered a Christmas movie? Then they turn their attention to the latest offering from Disney Plus, "Home Sweet Home Alone." This time we get to know the would-be burglars. The Wonder Years - The State of Network TV

Apparently, Nicole and Rolando thought that the ABC's 1988 family show, "The Wonder Years" was actually filmed in the 60's. Was it impressive filmmaking or just the folly of youth? This week, the two discuss the popularity of the show and its handling of adolescence. Are Kevin and Winnie #couplesgoals? And was the show better when it handled real life issues and not just relationship drama?

Chucky - Are we ready for Chucky, the gay icon?

It's finally happened. Something Rolando and Nicole covered on the podcast has since gotten a remake or revival. 
This week they turn their attentions to Child's Play and the Chucky saga. The two spoke about the original 1988 film in July 2019. The Chucky character, created by Don Mancini has a long history on the big screen and can now be found on the small screen in the new USA & SyFy series, "Chucky."
And, this time Chucky is protecting (or grooming) a gay teenager in Hackensack, NJ. And Rolando and Nicole have a lot of thoughts and feelings about that. Thoughts like, "Is revenge ever right?" "Is Chucky the queer icon we need?" And, "Where is this idyllic version of Hackensack located because it ain't Jersey."

Dune - How You Dune?

1997's "Under Wraps" was Disney Channels first officially branded Disney Channel Original Movie. And to celebrate the milestone, Disney Channel remade it. What changed? Hardly anything. And Rolando and Nicole can't wait to complain.

Scenes from a Marriage - Where Was Oscar Issac‘s Glow-Up?

Marriage: blessing or curse? This week, Nicole and Rolando discuss Ingmar Bergman's "Scenes from a Marriage," a 1973 Swedish mini-series that showed audiences the dissolution of a "successful" marriage. The series would go on to be blamed for Europe's then-rising divorce rates. The series broke new ground in its often raw depiction of a failing marriage. Does it glamorize divorce or show the brutality of "love."
Then, they turn their attentions to HBO's remake, "Scenes of Marriage," starring Jessica Chastain and Oscar Issac. This time, the tables are turned when the gender roles are reversed. Does the series sustain its impact with the new changes? And, considering the popularity of "divorce stories," can this series break new ground?

She/He‘s All That - Happy Birthday, F. Scott Fitzgerald

1999 was quite a year for teen movies: Cruel Intentions. 10 Things I Hate About You. Drive Me Crazy. Jawbreaker. And of course, "She's All That" starring Freddie Prinze, Jr. and Rachel Leigh Cook. The Pygmalion adaptation focuses on high school teens who fall in love in the midst of a cruel bet. And Rolando was surprised how dark the film could be at times. Was high school ever really this mean?
 
Then, flash forward to 2021 when Netflix dropped "He's All That," a retelling of the beloved teen movie but with a twist: The girl gives the guy a popularity makeover. Because equality? The film explores the fragile relationship between teenagers and social media. Does it actually deliver on a message?
