The Baby-Sitters Club - Netflix Picked Up the BSC. I Guess They're Gonna Be Hoes?

"The Baby-Sitters Club" by Ann M. Martin is the beloved book series (which ran through 2000) that spawned 131 books, various spinoffs, dolls, board games and a film adaptation in 1995. But, how could anyone forget about the 1990's TV series, "The Baby-Sitters Club" and its catchy theme song, "Say Hello To Your Friends?"
This week, Rolando and Nicole take a trip to Stoneybrook, CT to revisit 1990's fashion and tackle real kids issues like stolen earrings, mistaken identities over landlines, and, of course, babysitting. Then we compare the HBO show to the 2020 Netflix series, "The Baby-Sitters Club."
How much has the world changed in 30 years? Can the baby-sitters, either as characters or as an idea, adapt to change? And more importantly, what does this new show say about the quality of children's programing in 2020? Listen to find out.

Perry Mason - A Hard Boiled Guy

Private investigators. Police corruption. Principled lawyers. This week, Rolando and Nicole take a look at the grandpapi of all police procedurals on television, "Perry Mason." The show ran for 9 seasons beginning in 1958 and starred Raymond Burr, who was a closeted homosexual. Then they explore the reimagined origins of the noble lawyer in HBO's "Perry Mason."

The Shining and Doctor Sleep - The PTSD of Having a Homicidal Father

 You asked for it. We delivered. In the spirit of self-isolation, this week Nicole and Rolando take a trip to the Overlook Hotel in Colorado to explore their shine or steam or whatever it is. The two explore the legacy of Stanley Kubrick's "The Shining" and its sequel "Doctor Sleep," directed by Mike Flanagan. How does the 1980 horror film compare to the 2019 flop? Does "The Shining" get more credit than deserved or is it truly one of the genre's best films? Since the 1960's, The U.S.A. has been trying to figure out which of 3 people claiming to be the same person is actually who they are they are. This game show, called "To Tell The Truth", appeared in 1959 and can currently been seen on ABC Thursday nights, hosted by Anthony Anderson. The conversation between Nicole and Rolando takes an interesting turn, when they get into the topic of the thin line between entertainment and exploitation, and whose voices are important to provide a platform to and whose voices are important to NOT provide a platform to. Scooby-Doo - There's Definitely Something Between Daphne and Velma

Scooby -Doo, where are you? Well, definitely not in theaters thanks to the coronavirus. This week, Rolando, Nicole & Eddie team up with Mike Jozic of A Podcast Named Scooby-Doo to form our very own Scooby gang in order the solve the greatest mystery: Why has Scooby lasted so long?
The gang deconstructs what made the series function so well since its inception in 1969 and how the franchise has evolved over the years to give us two (technically three) theatrical releases: 2002's Scooby-Doo starring Freddie Prinze, Jr, Sarah Michelle Gellar, Matthew Lillard, and Linda Cardinelli and 2020's Scoob! starring the Will Forte, Zac Efron, Amanda Seyfried, and Gina Rodriguez.
